It wasn’t a symbol I recognized—not from pack lore, not from the stories Jasper used to tell me when we were kids, not even from the half-forgotten myths elders liked to whisper after too much whiskey. It felt old. Older than IronClaw. Older than the bikes rusting in the compound. Older than the moon cycles I’d grown up counting.

Carved into the earth with precision, deep and glowing faintly, was a sigil neither of them recognized—interwoven with Lyra’s name. And beside it, burned into a blackened tree: “The Rebirth Begins.”

Arah snapped her head toward Zylas, who was flailing his left arm, bits of onion splattering from his hand. “You cut yourself?” she asked urgently. “Nah, it’s the motherfucking Vow of Silence,” he growled, turning to show her his inner forearm. “Hate when this shit happens.” Arah turned off the faucet, squinting at his arm. “Uh… what am I supposed to be looking at?” Zylas slapped his other hand onto the middle of his forearm and dragged it back, revealing a sigil etched into his skin. It looked oddly familiar. At the bottom, she recognized another sigil—the same one engraved on the pendant of her Gorgon amulet.

I saw it, and gasped, tracing my fingers across the lines. “This tattoo looks familiar… like I’ve seen it before.” He smiled smugly. “It’s not a tattoo. It’s a Sigil, burned into your skin. I have many more but that is preserved for when someone sees me naked.” I rolled my eyes at him. Who wants to even see him naked? “Why so many?” I asked. “Why would someone want to draw tattoos that much? Is it not painful?” “No, maybe, yes. For little girls like you, it might be.” The corner of his lips raised up.

Subtle at first, like an echo waiting to be heard. "What is that?” Vaughn frowned. He grabbed the shirt, tore it open, and froze on seeing what it was. Etched in radiant gold across the boy’s ribs was a sigil - delicate scales, a sword raised to the sky, and a blindfolded woman, her face serene, inked in celestial lines that shimmered with power. The Sigil of Themis. Vaughn stepped back, cold sinking into his bones, as his mind reeled. This mark was not a symbol of crime.

They certainly deserved it after the nightmares they had been through. Macario and I stood up and started from Jackson down the line. I asked them where they wanted it because it would essentially become a tattoo. They needed to be sure they were okay with the placement. Jackson and Lilli wanted it over their hearts. Dent and Pati wanted it on their inner wrists. The girls both wanted it on the left shoulder blades. Macario grabbed my hand and had me focus on the power that I could feel coming from him. I gathered it up and pushed it out towards them. Each of their sigils glowed with a brilliant white light before turning into black tattoos. It worked. It fucking worked.
