He realized, in that moment, that Domenico had erased my entire past.
"Frankie!" Salvatore reached for me.
I recoiled in fear. "I... I don't know you."
His hand hung in the air, the shock and pain in his eyes about to spill over.
"It's me, Salvatore..." he murmured. "We were together for more than a decade... and you're saying you don't remember me? Did Domenico do something to you?"
I shook my head. For him, I felt only fear.
"I get it. You're still angry with me, aren't you?" He suddenly pulled a small, crumpled box from his pocket. Inside was a small pile of photos, painstakingly pieced back together. "Look, I fixed your mother's picture..."
