He shuddered at the thought of the vampires, he had refused to believe that vampires still existed until he had seen Dracaryx and the others. The door to the room opened and Dracaryx walked in. Dante immediately went on his knees. Dracaryx walked up to him and patted his head. "Good boy." he praised him. "Thank you master" he answered. "Stand up" Dracaryx ordered him.

“You… you’ve been here all along, hiding in plain sight?” Danny laughed softly, a chilling sound that echoed off the stone walls. “Not hiding, my dear. Waiting. Watching. And now? The stage is set.” Her fingers instinctively brushed her pendant, the warmth surging in response to her rising resolve. “You won’t win,” she said, her voice steadier than she felt. “I will get out of here. And when I do…” Danny’s eyes flicked to Mahisar, a smirk tugging at his lips. “When you do… you’ll wish you hadn’t.”

“Yes. You two were very close. You adored that boy, and he loved you with everything in him.” She paused for a moment, sadness clouding her eyes. “After you… after everyone thought you were gone, Danny changed. He barely spoke. He cried every night. Lucian tried, but he was drowning in his own grief. Danny locked himself away in that room and stopped smiling.” I could feel a knot tightening in my throat. “Can I see him?” “Of course.” She led me through a hallway that shimmered like something out of a magazine. High ceilings. Marble floors. Art on the walls. Every corner smelled of fresh lilies and warmth.

I shake my head, trying not to come off as being taken off guard. "Just discussing assignments." Danny watches Nate closely, his eyes measuring up his tall frame. Danny's eyes roam all over my partner's face, from his brown eyes to the little scars just above his left eyebrow. I can practically hear his thought. Those are from the accident. I try my hardest not to look at the scars marking his face. They make me sad. Nate must have sensed that he is being watched because he shifts uncomfortably on his feet. I elbow Danny in the ribs, breaking his inscrutable stare.

Daniel replies flatly without looking up, finds something he wants and settles back down to dig in and watch a particularly bloody scene on the screen. Both men seem zoned in on the mass shooting and blood thirsty hero, hacking bad guys to bits with a large sword. I never understood action movies and all that bloodlust. “Don’t worry, Danny, I’ll still keep you as my side chick, snuggle when Emma’s not looking.” He squeezes me, and I quell the urge to laugh at them.

Annie’s POV The smoke was still in the air, and the faint smell of the burned wood made my stomach churn. The whole pack was in a frenzy, feet running above us, voices yelling all around. I propped my feet up on the couch, my arms wrapped around my feet. I still felt his arms around me. And his deep baritone. I tried not to think about it. But the alternative was my dream. It played right in front of me. The fire, the heat, my inability to move. What would have happened if Daemon hadn’t come in then?

“The explosion flattened that entire compound. You saw it yourself. No one could’ve walked away from that. Phantom’s dead. All we’ve got left is Dennis.” I shook my head firmly. “I don’t believe that. A man like Phantom doesn’t just… vanish in rubble. He plans. He hides. He taunts. He survives.” Abel tilted his head, studying me like I was the stubborn one. “That’s your anger talking. He’s dead. You need to let yourself believe that or it’s going to eat you alive.”

Ash said, "Don't cling to him like that. Give him some space to calm down!" It was only then that Danny realized we weren't alone in the living room, and his face turned red. Danny awkwardly leaned his head on Ash's shoulder, avoiding looking at us. In my mind, the image of Danny struggling at the hotel entrance, bewildered and unsure of what to do, emerged again. And then the scene of Danny crying in agony over a long-term relationship betrayed, the pain he endured was unimaginable.

Your entire family has no conscience! Danny listened, blank. Like his soul had been ripped out. He'd probably always thought we still had a chance. That I was jealous. Throwing a fit. That if he swallowed his pride and apologized, I'd forgive him, we'd remarry, and we'd still have a future. Like a drowning man, Danny grabbed Mom's pant leg, no longer caring how pathetic he looked. "You've got it wrong. There's no one else in my heart... I want to see her. Please. Just let me see her one last time..."

“Elara!” My search is rudely interrupted when Hannah’s cloying voice comes from the screen again. “Do you want Damon to be your daddy?” she asks Danny, and from what it looks like, she seems to be in the hospital. “Yes!” Danny replies excitedly. “I want him to be my daddy. Can he really be my daddy, Mom?” “Of course he can,” she smiles, cupping his face. “Just do as I say, and soon enough, he’ll be your actual daddy in no time.”
