Anna's POV And just like Erica said, Danny came over with a box of pepperoni pizza and drinks. Danny was Erica's boyfriend, they had been dating for eight months and I think they were a perfect match. With his sandy blond hair, tanned skin, dimpled cheeks, sea-green eyes that seemed to glow from afar, and his infectious smile but he was shy and reserved yet somewhat easygoing. There was a certain glow of affection in his eyes whenever he looked at Erica. It was as if she held the stars within her own eyes while also lighting up the entire galaxy that is Danny Phantom.

The face that greets me is not the one I was hoping to see. "Hello, sweetie pie," Danny says, smiling. But I can tell it's fake, even though the only light source is the moon. Danny is dark-skinned. His black hair is styled in a low cut, and he has a beard. The Dolce & Gabbana suit he's wearing does little to hide his muscles. I'd be lying if I said he wasn't ripped. To sum it up, Danny is a gorgeous man, but even with all his handsomeness, he is the worst romantic partner I have ever met-except Jacob if I'm including that horrible human being in the running, too.

Inside, the flickering firelight cast long, skeletal shadows across the floor, where the 1890 photograph lay like a curse. Dante stood over the bed, the silver vial clutched in his hand as if it were a holy relic or a poisoned chalice. Danny sighs, averting his eyes that seemed to have seen all the horrible things over the years for a second, “But I was wrong.” He says, and I look at him, confused. “Danny, what aren’t you telling me?” I ask, and he sighs, walking over to take a picture from the wall. The same picture that caught my attention because of my mom, holding me when I was a baby. However, that wasn’t the only one that caught my eye. It was the huge wolf right beside her. The same wolf in the picture from those headlines I read. My heart beats erratically as I wonder.

The one connected to my Sexy Red persona. Danny's name flashed on the screen. What could he possibly want? My hands were shaking as I grabbed the voice modulator and answered. "Hello?" I said in my altered voice. "Sexy Red, hi," Danny said, and something in his tone made my stomach drop. "Hi," I responded carefully. "I thought about everything you said," Danny continued, his voice oddly calm. "And there's something important I need to tell you. Can we meet? Just briefly. In the next ten minutes. This is very important."

"Caroline deserved better than she got. Make sure her death meant something." Then he was gone, and Danny was alone with the photographs. He picked up Liam's picture and studied it. This man who looked like his father. This man who probably had no idea what Astor Sinclair had really done. This man who was about to inherit a nightmare whether he wanted it or not. Danny thought about Caroline. About rain and blood and the weight of nine years in a cage. Then he carefully gathered the photographs and slid them into his pocket. Two weeks until freedom. Two weeks to decide what kind of man he would be.

Even the animal is holding onto something from that time. I sit on the fence for a while, just watching him. Then I keep walking until I reach the open field. I lie down in the grass, staring up at the vast sky. My mind won’t stop replaying the room. I had snooped further, opening drawers, lifting stacks of old papers. There were more photos, deliberately hidden at the back of one drawer. In some of them Danny is wearing a dress, soft makeup bringing out the sharp angles of his face, lipstick a bold pop of color. He looks genuinely happy, radiant, even, smiling at the camera like he’s finally allowed to take up space. And Levi… Levi is looking at him with this quiet, all-consuming devotion.

Danny heard a series of explosions from the hotel lobby. His eyelids fluttered. He frowned anxiously. Soon, there was dead silence upstairs. Danny hesitated for a long time before finally making up his mind. He slowly walked upstairs. By the time he reached the thirteenth floor, he was out of breath. However, he stopped breathing altogether when he saw the scene in the corridor. The corpses on the ground were all bleeding profusely, and they included the Shadow Guards' corpses.
