He pulled his phone out and searched his gallery for a second before looking at me “what do you know about Tyler?” “What?” I asked, frowning in confusion. He handed me his phone, and I frowned when he showed me a video of him entering a black sports car, then scrolling toward the next picture, he was entering a mansion. “I know that you won’t like the fact that I went ahead and searched about him, and I know that I had no right to do so; however, what I found forced me to proceed my search, and I don’t think that he was being completely truthful with you about his identity” Dante said, as I kept my eyes on the phone, my heart racing against my ribcage as I tried processing what he was saying

He looked at Alex, but he didn't see the man he loved; he saw a a liar, a phantom that wouldn't let him die in peace. "Don't... touch... me," Danny gasped, his hands flying up to cover his ears. "You’re not real. You’re a hallucination. My brain is broken. It’s all broken." Alex didn't rush him. He sank to his knees on the floor a few feet from the bed, making himself smaller, lower than the boy on the mattress. He stayed silent, letting the waves of Danny’s panic wash over him through the bond. He felt the cold, the hopelessness, and the terrifying desire for the world to simply stop.

It seems the kid had learned some caution, at least. “Boss?” Danny’s voice was young, and uncertain. “You wanted to see me?” I turned slowly, letting him sweat for a moment. He was twenty, maybe twenty-one. Scrawny. And very nervous. This was the kid who’d let Rylan escape a week ago. “Come here,” I said. Danny approached like he was walking to the gallows. His hands were shaking. I let the silence stretch, watching him squirm. Then I smiled. “Good work.”

He smirks as he disappears. “Oh, you will know how much of a real man he is soon enough.” Danny says as he walks away and grabs a woman who screams. I struggle against my restraints as Dane appears. He is huge, buzzed hair cut, with grey eyes. He is packed with muscles he is bulky. Every step he takes is with purpose. He is dangerous. But he is stupid. All that muscle and nothing in his head. “Angel Moretti. It is so nice to finally meet you. We are going to have so much fun together.” I snort on a laugh.

"My name's Danny. I worked for Sal. For years. We were watching them. The Vincenzos. The De Lucas. All of them." Alex sat on a crate across from him. "Watching them for who?" Danny looked up. His eyes were the color of rust, the pupils too large, like he hadn't slept in days. "For ourselves. For the people who got crushed under them. The ones who disappeared. The ones who ended up in the river." He gestured to the papers. "We kept records. Names. Dates. Places. Everything they thought they buried." Alex picked up one of the photographs. It was old, the edges soft, the colors faded. A man, young, his arm around a woman who was laughing at something off camera. He didn't recognize the faces.

I walked through the front door, expecting the house to be quiet. Instead, I saw him. Danny was sitting on the sofa, and my breath hitched in my throat. He wasn't wearing those baggy hoodies he usually hid in these days. He was in these tiny white shorts and a pink lace top that showed way too much of that smooth skin. His lips were glossy and pink, his eyes sharpened with his dark paint I think, he looked like a real sexy danger to me. He looked up at me, and his eyes were soft, and melting my heart in seconds.

One of Danny's first reading loves was in the horror genre, devouring Poe, King, Herbert and others as a child, and he has recently developed a side line in writing horror shorts for the author and compiler, Samie Sands, which he enjoys very much. Danny now lives in France, and his book, A Tale of Aquitaine, is part auto fiction, part fantasy, and about his life there caring for a disabled child. He is now working on a forthcoming novel entitled, Lala's Non-stop Erotic Cabaret, a story of sex, murder, and insanity..
