His face was a mask of soot-stained stone, his jaw set so tightly that the muscles near his ears twitched with every stride. Behind them, Danny walked in the center of their small perimeter. He was wrapped in a thick, navy wool blanket Scarlett had pulled from the library sofa, his hands buried deep within the folds, his face exceptionally pale. His cipher-brain—the brilliant, hyper-analytical mechanism that had spent the last twenty-four hours decoding a dead architect’s geometric riddle—seemed to have gone entirely offline, leaving behind nothing but a tired sixteen-year-old boy who wanted to know when the dark would stop.

“Casey, you need to be careful. If you’re seeing him in your dreams, it means he’s trying to reach you. That’s no ordinary man you’re dreaming about.” “What do you mean?” I whisper, my heart racing at the warning in his words. “Who is he?” Danny takes a deep breath, his jaw tightening. “I don’t know who exactly, but if his eyes are violet… then he’s not from around here. Not from any pack I know of. And if he’s calling you his mate…” He trails off, looking around as if he’s afraid someone will come in and accidentally hears us. He said he knows packs. What does that mean? He turns to me, and the look on his face tells me he’s debating whether to say more.

Jonathan stood at the cemetery, his hands buried deep in his pockets. Geoffrey had just placed fresh flowers on the grave. Jonathan stared at the engraved name: “Danny Golden.” He watched a small ant crawl up the cold concrete. A memory flickered in his mind like an old film reel. He traveled back to a time when Danny was still alive. He had been a lively, cheerful man, and Jonathan’s father had loved him for his positive spirit. His father often said Danny was the reason he never gave up on his dreams; it was Danny's words that had helped bring the Walter building to life.

"Want to test that theory?" The scarred male laughs without humor. "Bold words from someone who can barely stand. Look at you. You killed Cassius, yes, but what did it cost? Your ribs are broken. You're bleeding internally. That five-form sequence drained your magic reserves dangerously low—maybe forty percent left, maybe less." He tilts his head. "You might have killed one of us, Phantom. But could you handle both of us? And even if you somehow managed that impossible feat—which you can't—the other two already have your son. Four Bloodletters, one exhausted Chimera, and a pack of broken wolves. The mathematics don't favor you."

Not someone paid just to sow chaos. Damon leaned back, glass of scotch in hand, watching the screen shift her signature into a shape he hated: human. Patterns with restraint. Motives that weren’t money-driven. His analysts called her a phantom. Damon wasn’t so sure. Shadows had bodies. Shadows were cast by something real. And the most dangerous thought he’d entertained, the one that kept him from sleeping, was that he’d already met the body behind this particular shadow. His mind flicked, unbidden, to Elara Duval.

The one connected to my Sexy Red persona. Danny's name flashed on the screen. What could he possibly want? My hands were shaking as I grabbed the voice modulator and answered. "Hello?" I said in my altered voice. "Sexy Red, hi," Danny said, and something in his tone made my stomach drop. "Hi," I responded carefully. "I thought about everything you said," Danny continued, his voice oddly calm. "And there's something important I need to tell you. Can we meet? Just briefly. In the next ten minutes. This is very important."

**~~** Danny shook the memories from his head, he stretched tired muscles on the armchair he sat on, he was really trying to keep this going but his heart was in constant chaos, especially since he saw the news from earlier. He recognized that picture and even if he tried to ignore it, he just couldn't help but wonder. The news said it was suicide. Danny wanted to believe that considering the evidence presented. But, did Daniel really seem like he had planned to die that day as he massaged his body with sun lotion? Something doesn't sit right. But what? **~~**

Danny was quiet for some time, deep in thought. “That fucking bastard.” He muttered the frustration clear on his face. “Tell me about it.” I mumbled too. “But don’t worry. I think I have a plan on how to save Xavier.” I said smiling at the idea. Danny frowned, his brows furrowing “You think you have a plan, or you know you have an actual plan that would work?” he asked making me grit my teeth. He knew how to be an asshole if he wanted to. “I do have a plan, but you’re going to have to trust me man. Do you think you can do that?”

Danny exhaled, it was the first time he didn't have answers and it’s making this a real problem. “Any doubts about who might be behind this,” I asked, getting up from the top of the table. Danny didn’t utter anything, it was like he was holding up something which he was afraid to say. “Say it, Danny, I know, you know something,” I ordered. He rubbed his chin and shrugged, shook his head to think once before saying anything, “It’s just my speculation….but… what I have seen and it's only pointed at, Luna’s daughter.”

Drayce asked. “Drayce, the Phantom knows what I’m about. There will never be anything that would make the Phantom kill me.” I said confidently. “The Phantom is your mate. Isn’t he? I heard he was a concubus. The incubi who investigated the deaths said it was clearly a concubus’ fighting style when he used something other than his knives.” Anders declared. I blushed and glanced at Annie who was hiding a small smirk. No reason not to go with assumptions. I might tell them later, but it was a good idea, just in case. I could feel fear coming from my angel.
