There was a table. Books stacked on it. Not like the ones I used to see at home. These looked older. Some of them had markings on the covers I didn’t understand. I walked closer. My fingers hovered over one of them before I touched it. The cover felt rough. Worn. I opened it slowly. The pages were filled with symbols. Not letters. Not words I knew. Shapes. Lines. Things that looked like drawings but weren’t. I frowned. “What is this…?” I flipped a page.

Third-Person POV The flames shot toward the sky. Lina, whom Dante had left behind, was swallowed up by the blazing fire within seconds. The report slipped from Dante's fingers as he stiffly turned around and looked at the sea of fire that was devoid of any human silhouettes. Something seemed to snap within Dante's mind, causing him to spit out a mouthful of blood. He let out an anguished howl before he fell to his knees among the burning debris.

She wanted to laugh, to spit the words back at him, but something in his tone held her still. He was steel wrapped in velvet, and she hated how a part of her trembled at his control. Later, she fled to the library. She ran her fingers along the rows of leather-bound books, their spines cold and unfamiliar. She didn’t know half the titles; most were in Italian. She pulled one free, opened it, and found the words blurring before her eyes.

"I know! That's why we're going to the heart!" They reached the ground floor. The library was a wreck, the books charred and scattered. Dante didn't stop.
