When it ended, the storm had quieted. Dawn cracked through the skyline, staining the penthouse in pale gold. Kimberly lay half-draped over him, tracing the tattoos on his ribs with her fingertips. Kovoc’s arm rested across her waist protectively, his eyes open, watching the sky like a man waiting for ghosts.
“You’re not going to lose me,” she said, half-asleep.
He turned to look at her, and something unreadable flickered in his gaze, fear, devotion, surrender. “You don’t belong in my world.”
