Kael's POV The Blood Flame towered over the battlefield. Its body was made of living crimson fire, constantly shifting between smoke and flame. Two enormous wings stretched across the sky, blotting out what remained of the moon. It had no true face. Only two burning crimson eyes. Eyes that had watched kingdoms rise... And kingdoms fall. A voice echoed from every direction. "At last..." "I am free." The words sent a wave of dread through every warrior. Commander Cassian tightened his grip on his spear.

The black feathers of Raymond's wings were as dark as the night sky, and something stirred in Ravi's chest as he watched those wings, as if he was living in a fantasy tale he had once read. The moment I gave the word, he took off, wings slicing the sky, fire erupting in great gouts that scorched the clouds. The castle came into view looming, ancient, familiar and foreign at once. It breathed fire towards a cluster of our Aetherfangs. Two scattered in time. One did not. Flame swallowed its wing, and it spiralled downward, crashing into the roof of the burned hall.
