Riley didn't hesitate. The moment the bandits moved, he was already drawing. His body responding quickly now compared to earlier when it was daylight. His focus narrowing as everything else seemed to fall into place around a single priority. The one at the back. The crossbowman. He had already begun to lift his weapon, the motion smooth and practiced, the kind of movement that would have put a bolt straight through one of them before the fight had even properly started, but Riley was faster, the arrow leaving his hand in one uninterrupted motion, clean and precise.

Fresh, juicy, mouth-watering food! "Raarh, raarh, raarh!" "Raarh, raarh, raarh!" Excitement surged through it as it flung its arms wide and charged forward. Darius took one look at the weapon in his stepmother’s hand and felt irritated. Why was she trying to act as if she knew him well enough? Before this they had barely ever held an actual conversation, so she trying to act all motherly towards him just disgusted him. “Darius, answer your stepmother.” Mr. Bianchi called out. He reached for his licensed hand gun and began polishing the weapon, readying it for the upcoming hunt.

“What’s going on?” Dylan yelled, catching up to us quite quickly. Fuck, he’s fast, I smiled, skidding to a halt 20 yards from the portal. Dylan was on my right, staring at me like he wanted answers. Rosy was on my left, with her crossbow strapped to her left arm, and her sword in her right. I quickly strapped my crossbow to my right and had my sword in my left. I had learned a long time ago that Rosy and I were not always the same.

Crossbows were overall easier to use since they did not require as much physical strength as a bow did. “What does Damien use?” I asked. I forgot to ask Damien the question. “I don’t know. A sword perhaps?” Dela turned to Rosalia questioningly. She did not even know what her own son used as a weapon, but knew what her stepdaughter used. “A sword,” Rosalia confirmed. “And a spear too, during the hunt.” Rosalia’s voice was milky and calm. I had never heard a more beautiful voice. Damien kept his sword in our chamber, beside our bed on his side. He said it was so he could grab it as quickly as possible if needed. I never tried to touch it. I was not that curious.
