I unlocked my phone, and it buzzed to life with a flood of messages from every chat app, all congratulating me on the new drug's successful first phase. Keira had gone wild in the group chats, tagging me nonstop and sending digital gift cards like confetti. But as I scrolled through the flood of praise and flattery, not a spark of joy stirred in me. I stayed in bed for a long time, lost in a haze of thoughts. Finally, I grabbed the divorce papers and dragged myself out of the room. The living room was empty. Keira was nowhere in sight. Charles quickly ended the call when he saw me. He looked flustered and said, "Rosie, I was just checking on Avery's dog." I tilted my head slightly and replied, "There's nothing to misunderstand." "You don't mind?" Charles asked. "There's nothing to mind," I replied. After a pause, Charles said, "You're coming with me to a birthday party tonight." She said sarcastically Adrian just stared at her with soft eyes as he ran his thumb in circles on her hand. "I'm sorry about that," Natalie smiled and pulled the table forward to them. And opened a box, which had a cake in it. It looked homemade too. "You made it." He didn't really ask he knew she did, Natalie just nodded as she cut a small piece and fed it to him.
