“Isabella is my wife. She is the lady of this house. No one—and that includes you—will insult her.”
Francesca stared at her son, shocked, as if she couldn't believe her own ears. “You… for this woman, you would defy me?”
“If you force me to, then I have no choice,” Vincent said, his voice firm.
The tension between mother and son was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Just then, a weak voice drifted down from the main staircase.
“Grandmother… you’re finally back…”
Everyone looked up. Dante, supported by two guards, was limping down the stairs. He was a pathetic sight—the bruises on his face hadn’t faded, his arm was still in a cast, and his leg was clearly not healed.
