THE FIRST MOVE The room fell silent. Nobody spoke. Nobody even looked at one another. Five phones. One message. One warning. You survived Phase One. Aurora stared at the screen in her trembling hand. Her own grave. Her own name. Someone had already planned her funeral. Lucien quietly took the phone from her fingers. His expression hardened as he studied the image. “This wasn’t sent to frighten us.” Alexander looked up. “It was sent to prove something.” Victor nodded grimly.

He took a somewhat worn-out wallet from the inner pocket of his black suit. In the wallet's lining was a yellowed photograph. In the photograph, I was fresh from my wolf awakening and was wearing a white dress. My eyes were shrunken up from smiling as I held a sunflower windmill. My background was the tree-lined path of the werewolf academy. It was taken on our first date. He kept it close to him but never admitted to me that he cared. He reached out his hand, covered in horribly scarred burns, to touch the inscription on the tombstone, but his fingertips trembled violently in mid-air.

CULLEN’s POV The rain poured heavily. The dark clouds loomed above, seething with fury. I sipped my bittersweet coffee as the Death Note on my desk began to glow faintly. I reached out and took it in my hand. An unfamiliar name appeared, along with the details of death. “Clark Stephen Daniel,” I muttered with a sigh. “Your time has come. I’m coming to collect,” I whispered, my voice void of warmth. It was time to reap his soul. The details were clear—he would die tonight, inside a nightclub.

It’s the usual for Yumeko, focusing more on her phone. Suddenly, Nabi pauses, her gaze locked on the cafeteria’s television, where the big news is being displayed. “Ya, is that not your street? It sounded familiar, I thought I’d ask you about it, I wasn’t sure.” I glance at the television screen with the headline, “Unfortunate sudden encounter with Lucifer heirs, found dead and dumped this morning.” On the screen is a picture of dead Nevan, his eyes were plucked out as if to stop him from seeing something, his neck bone broken, so he’s kept in a terrible posture.

I turned away from her again. “Balor-“ “Goodbye, Nes.” *** *Present day* I stood at the far end of the debriefing room as Detective Killian and Sullivan looked over the footage I brought. Fighting the urge to stand near her. Only breathing through my mouth to avoid inhaling her scent anymore than I already had. The dull throbbing of my head, becoming stronger the longer we stood here.

I muttered. “I'll write her name in my Death Note,” she promised. I glanced at her. “I won't stop you.” “What are you two whispering about?” Eleonor squeezed in between us. “We're just planning a murder.” Joy shrugged, and Eleonor's eyes widened. For a moment, I stopped breathing. I couldn't believe Joy said it so casually, but then Eleonor smirked and asked, “And who will be the unlucky victim?” “The blond-haired, half-brained creature in the red dress, standing in front of us,” Joy answered.

“She’s been acting... strange. She must have hidden those notices, forged my signature on that order, like you said.” “He’s lying!” the poor girl screams. “I don’t even know what this--!” Louie guns her down – single bullet to the skull. I grind my teeth, the young priest squeezes shut his eyes, and Allen the newspaper editor breaks down sobbing, keeling over and hyperventilating all the harder. “Who’s next?” Bertinelli smiles.

Was a one in a million shot of saving the old man and myself worth pissing my step son off for? "Well? Are you stupid enough to pick it up? Want to take your shot? Are you sucking or dying, Joy? What's it going to be, mommy?" Lee purred, staring me dead in the eye as the blaring sounds of the ringing filled the empty silence in the room.

… One day, I suddenly saw the news on the television. "The Jones family was murdered. None of the family members lived." My heart skipped a beat. I then saw a photo of my family on the screen. "It is reported that the murder was committed by Susan Jones, the wife of the old director of Jones Group..." None of them survived. Charles, Derek, Samantha, Jenson, and Susan—all of them died. "Mrs. Jones left a suicide note, claiming that this was done for her daughter Celine..." I could no longer process the words I heard after that.
