She crossed the compound with her hand still pressed to her side and crouched down beside Xavier and looked at Cara, at the gold eyes, at the closing wound, at the quality of a twelve-year-old who had died twelve minutes ago and was now looking around the compound with the composed attention she brought to everything. "She was already undergoing her first transformation when she died," Kira said. She said it the way she said things she was certain of, flat, precise, no inflation around the edges. Not dramatic. Just the accurate sentence.

“We just killed her right?” Kira grimaced and sent the image back to the director’s terminal. “Yeah, we did. Something’s not right with your intel.” “You sure about that?” Rodrigo asked flatly. “Her name was Lilia Baudin. I watched her head explode in my scope two years ago in Prague.
