I smiled for the lens, picked at the ribbon, and opened it. The smell hit first, metallic and sweet in a way that made my stomach turn. Inside was a teddy bear soaked in fake blood, the fur matted dark, glass eyes staring up at me, and a card pinned to its chest. I only saw the first line before my hands stopped working. YOU SHOULD HAVE DIED AT THE GALA. The box slipped. The bear hit the studio floor with a wet sound that was too loud in the sudden quiet. I shoved back from the couch so hard the legs screeched.

One never knew when that information could come in handy. Plus, it’d help to pass the time and keep me busy. Sounded like a win-win to me. There was some type of writing on the front that I couldn’t read, but I could feel the power radiating off of the book. Strangely, Bex couldn’t feel it. I opened the cover, revealing an intricate colored illustration that showed a large silver wolf standing below a blood moon, its head tilted back in a howl. Light from the moon fell in rays onto the wolf.

Thomas said from down the hall. I followed his voice and found him in a spotless bathroom totally themed out in blackjacks. The ace and jack of spades held significance to someone. I bend to pick up the book and stumble back a bit. It's heavy and I lug it into the room kicking the door shut with the back of my heel before moving to sit down on my bed. "Who left you at my door." I run my hand over the cover and I can feel the light layer of dust on it. My hand stops at the glass bubble and I avoid touching that part.

My gaze trails across the shelves… until one in particular catches my attention. My feet carry me toward a shelf tucked into the far left corner of the lowest level. I don’t know why, but something about it pulls me in like an invisible thread guiding my steps. The closer I get, the stronger the sensation grows. The hairs on my arms rise. Mystical wolves.That’s what the plaque above the shelf reads, written in old silver script. I scan the spines of the books.Most are worn, dusty, untouched for years. One of them catches my eye. A thick, royal blue book with no title. Just a crescent white moon etched in the center of the cover.

Jacob laughed. “I’ll kick your ass too!” I said as I glared at him. “Kris! We have one more surprise for you.” Penny yelled from behind my front desk. “What?” I looked confused. She walked out carrying a massive book. I recognized what it was right away. It’s the type of book that you use for a portfolio. “You got me a new book?” “Kinda.” Penny showed me the cover. It had a Black Moon with two wolves howling. The leather was fresh as I could smell it. Alec took the cover and opened it for me.

It was not all, the cover was the eyes of werewolves. My brows furrowed in keen interest as well as something I can't name settling within me. Without thinking further, my hand took out the book and the front cover showed the face of werewolves with its eyes glowing in a golden hue. I brushed my fingers on the cover, mesmerized by the image. It was delicately printed and made.

Look closer. Her gaze settled on a particularly weathered book tucked away near the corner. Its cover was simple, but a faint embossed design caught the light - a pair of intertwined wolves beneath a crescent moon. The image sent a shiver down her spine, and her fingers tingled as she pulled it from the shelf. She opened it carefully, the pages crackling with age. The script was ornate, the kind that took a moment to decipher, but the accompanying illustrations made her breath catch. Drawings of wolves with hollowed eyes and jagged teeth, their forms twisted and monstrous, filled the margins.

It's a handwritten book by a toddler. Lucifer looked at the drawing. It had a sun with two adults and a child in the middle. The book had a name written: Jessica's mommy and daddy. Lucifer glances through the book and turns to the second page; it says to believe. The third page says, ‘I have not abandoned you.’ The fourth page, ‘if you are reading this it is because it was planned you find this.’ As Lucifer turns the page, he sees gods hand reaching out of the sky. As he checks the other pages, it is all blank. This is where your story begins. Tossing it aside, Lucifer can't help but tear up, seeing this girl's picture with long blonde hair and about seven years old.
