The hall was a huge round chamber supported by fluted marble pillars. In the center of the hall, on a dais carved from a huge block of translucent quartz, lay an ancient pedestal. On the pedestal was an odd-looking object, a pendant, tear-shaped, wrought from some unknown iridescent metal that changed color from pale silver to deep violet. Inside the lattice was a shining milky-white focus stone that beat with a soft rhythmic pulse. "The tear of Elyra," I whispered, recalling the name from the ancient memory of my marrow, rather than from a book.

It's so damn cool. "Yeah, I do remember! Mom told me about the four crystals. What are the other two again? The names were hard to pronounce. I just know that one is used by the seers to see future events, and the other is for making curses. Fudge! Curses and future spook the heck out of me, and thankfully, there aren't many of them as most were destroyed by the elders." Blair let out as she recalled, and her cousin explained that the Haram's Crystal is for seeing the future, and Verdana's Crystal is the one that makes curses.

The hall was short but wide, and after a few steps they followed the Elves into the main space. The roof rose high above them, open all the way to the peak of the high woven dome. There, too, were more tinted windows ringing the circular sides. To Keyla’s delight, she noted that additional light was provided by a series of elaborately shaped sconces growing from the walls themselves, within which sat a series of glowing white crystals. She had heard that the Elves knew secrets of crystal magic, but she had never seen such as these. It was remarkable, and spoke to the Elves’ talents with magic.

"Kiri examined it yesterday. She said it's safe to open, but the contents are... significant." The box was warm to the touch, its surface covered in symbols Rex recognized from the crazak nest. It opened smoothly at his touch, revealing a small crystal sphere nestled on a bed of what appeared to be living moss. The sphere glowed with an inner light that shifted between gold and purple hues. "What is it?" Rex asked, hesitant to touch the object directly. "Kiri called it an essence pearl," Lacey explained. "Apparently, they're incredibly rare—formed only when certain magical creatures willingly surrender a portion of their life force. The crazak queen created this from her own essence."

His other hand, which he had kept behind his back, was now lifted, and Emma couldn't see clearly. "This is a token of my heart!" Draco opened his mouth, his thin lips parting before quickly closing again. His tense gaze was fixed on her, and Emma felt slight flutter in her heart. Her eyes landed on something in his hand. It was a pendant in the shape of a crescent moon. Emma looked closely and grew more astonished. The gemstone was pure green, exuding an ethereal and gentle aura. Nestled in her palm, she caressed it lightly as though touching a beautiful woman's smooth, glossy skin, giving the illusion that the gemstone was alive. She concluded that this pendant was undoubtedly priceless.

"Let's help me find the grimoire." After passing the long hall, they reached an antechamber and stopped in their tracks. One wall was ruined, and chill outdoor air flooded in. But the other walls! They were encrusted with minerals of every hue. Rose quartz crystals like pink diamonds, spiky red rubies, forest green malachite, and peacock coal were clustered side by side with topaz, tourmaline, amethyst, garnet, and opal.

I saw Draco still swimming around until he dove and grabbed a necklace. I could tell from afar that it was a purple stone—an amethyst. He probably didn’t see anything further than here, so he went back for the necklace. If the citrine I was holding was one of the treasures, then it also meant Draco’s amethyst was also one, as Adessa mentioned that gemstone. So, I had no choice but to hope that we were both right with our choices. The hairpin was very simple. It was made out of brass and at the end there was a small red crystal. It was a used spirit crystal. After the spiritual energy inside the spirit stones were used up, they leave behind these very transparent and reflective crystals. Humans seem to love those and called them diamonds.
