Honestly, I’ve seen a decent amount of Izuku x Tsuyu content over the years, and I feel like the genre distribution is pretty interesting. It’s not just one thing. A lot of them tend to be school-life fluff or domestic post-graduation stuff, which makes sense given their personalities. They’re both sweethearts, so writers lean into that comfort.
But the genre that consistently delivers the best stuff for me is hurt/comfort. Tsuyu’s straightforward, practical nature is perfect for dealing with Izuku’s chronic overthinking and self-sacrificing habits. I’ve read a few where she just bluntly tells him to stop being an idiot and rest, and it feels so much more impactful than a more dramatic, angsty character doing it. It’s a quiet, firm kind of care.
There’s also a surprising niche of superhero agency AUs, where they run a hero agency together. It leans into their complementary skills—his analysis and her tactical, grounded approach. You get a mix of action, case-fic, and relationship-building. Soulmate AUs pop up occasionally, but they often feel a bit forced with these two; their connection works better when it’s built on mutual respect and shared duty, not a predestined mark. The fluff is nice, but the stories that stick with me are the ones where they’re partners, in every sense of the word.
