she calmly responded. I stared at her, as she once again sat in the bed and crossed her legs. "Do you know, Demon is known as Demon because of me?" She proudly boasted. I stared at her, not knowing whatever she wanted to say. "I entered in his life, and I fell in love with him. He was young, smart and wicked. He had it in him to rule the underworld, he was meant to be the king, and I always wanted to be the queen. So, I helped him grow, I stood by his side, showed him the path, and brought out the animal in him. I made him ruthless, and the most feared man. I turned him to an animal, and I made him the king. At the same time Jamari stands up straighter, giving the Demon a cold glare, and says, “Do you know who I am, Demon?” Henry’s eyebrow raises in surprise at her words, concentration filling his eyes as he stares at the two of us more closely. “I can’t say that I do.” Henry drawls after a tense few minutes passes. Jamari’s shoulders stiffen, her angry glare trained on Henry, causing him to shift in place. “I am your Queen, Demon.” Jamari says, causing Henry’s eyebrows to go up so high it almost disappears into his hairline. Henry stares at Jamari with disbelief written on his face. “I hate to break it to you sweetheart, but you are so not Lucifer’s type.”

Predictable. Now we introduce the alternative. Not a lie. A competitor. In the outer districts, where the wards are weaker and desperation is stronger, we have allowed a figure to rise. She claims to be an answer. “She calls herself the Ash Queen,” one of our watchers reports, eyes bright with curiosity. I smile slightly. “Let them name her what they wish,” I say. “Names are hooks.”

The few demons who were attempting to bribe Asmodeus and use him as a tool man suddenly looked at each other and bowed to her in a respectful manner, "Queen." Asmodeus looks at the demons and then at Evelyn, looking puzzled, he asks, "Queen? Why do they call you Queen? Isn't your name Evelyn? Wait, whose queen are you? It can't be-"

I glance up at him as his fingers squeeze my hand again, looking stoically ahead. "Did the demon identify itself?" the female asks. I look over to her, wiping away another fallen tear from my cheek.
