He nodded silently. Pulling Ava back into his embrace, Peyton held her close, a silent oath to be her support and anchor in their lives raging seas. They lay together, wrapped in each other's arms, finding solace in their shared grief. Ava's sobs slowly subsided, but her body continued to tremble, each shiver a ripple of the deep-seated anguish that had taken root in her heart.

Blood flowed, but his eyes stared blankly. Ailee ran to him. "Aaron!" She hugged her husband's body, kissing his dusty and bloody face. "You're alive... you're alive..." Aaron only nodded.
