"I want this child to arrive into something resolved, Pet. Not perfect — I don't think perfect is available to any of us at this point. But resolved. Settled enough that whatever waits for them on the other side of this pregnancy isn't simply more of what we're all currently managing."
"Do you think that's realistic? Five months?"
I considered the question honestly, turning over everything still unresolved — the Council, Selene, the border, the truth still waiting to be spoken plainly and publicly rather than simply understood privately. "I don't know. I want to believe it's realistic. I'm not certain believing something makes it true, though."
"No," Petra agreed gently. "It usually doesn't.
