His lips pressed into a thin line. The shorter detective sighed. “We can do this the easy way or the hard way, Rico. Up to you.” Still nothing. The tall detective tapped the folder. “You’ve been running a long time. Hiding, ducking, choosing shadows over daylight. But shadows don’t protect you forever. Not from us, and not from the people whose names are in this file.” He let the folder stay shut, like a trap not yet sprung. “So why don’t you start with your name?”

I remark slyly, my gaze falling on a couple of officers walking toward us. “I didn’t want anyone to know that we were meeting someone in case we’re being watched. In this case, they will think we’re meeting the detective…” She’s saying when her gaze suddenly shifts behind me. I turn. The detective is approaching us in hurried steps. “Good morning, Alpha. Denvers.” He greets us, gesturing for us to get inside Emerald’s car. We slip inside. Emerald and I in the front. The detective at the back. “This is the copy of the file concerning your dad’s case,” the man says, extending a file to Emerald. She receives it quietly.

"Not without seeing the transaction data myself." The detective watched my reaction closely for a long, and silent moment. He didn't push the issue. Instead, he reached into his briefcase and pulled out a second, much thicker folder. He placed it directly on top of the gossip files, opening the cover to reveal a massive stack of financial reports and bank audits. My heart stopped, and I recognized them instantly. The exact same records I was just thinking about.

The detective walked into the office where his client was and immediately got down to business. Handing over the brown file in his hands to the seated man behind the busy desk, he took his seat and watched the puzzled Pablo open the file and pull out the papers in it. Pablo's eyes expanded when his eyes skimmed through. “W-what is…this?” He looked from document to document in increasing alarm until he got to the last and pressed at the other man for explanations. The detective exhaled and nodded with confirmation, “You’ve seen it for yourself Mr Pablo. Those are what I found out after using the bridge you gave the other time”.

Leaning back in my chair, I stared at my computer in disbelief. “How has he been able to get away with everything?” I mumbled. “Now I wish I would have killed him when I had the chance.” Zydan clenched his fist and slammed it against the desk. “We will deal with him.” I leaned forward and resumed searching through the contents of the flash drive. “Let’s see what else we can find.” “What is that file?” Zydan pointed at a file on the computer screen that was marked REN.
