I was honestly starting to believe I’d be stuck floating in this blank hell forever when something finally shifted. This tiny spark of warmth bloomed right in the middle of my chest. Faint. Almost nothing. But warm. God, so warm. I slapped my hand over my heart. “What the...” It pulsed. Once. Twice. And then I heard my own voice. Not here. Not now.

And then I froze. I heard it. My voice. Trembling, I pressed a hand to my throat, disbelieving. "Ah...hah..." I tried again. A soft gasp escaped me as I stared at my hands like they held the key to some ancient magic. Tears welled in my eyes as I opened my mouth again, and this time, a laugh came out, croaky, strange, and unfamiliar, but mine. "So this... this is how I sound?" I whispered. "I didn't even remember anymore..."

That voice again. This time closer. Closer than before. Aurora slowly turned around, trying to find whoever was calling her. But there was nobody there. Only the whispering forest. Only the moonlight. “Aurora…” The sound echoed once more. And suddenly, realization struck her. The voice… Was hers. Aurora’s eyes widened. No— Not exactly hers. It sounded like her voice, yet deeper. Older. More powerful. As though something hidden deep inside her soul had finally found a way to speak.

I was completely stuck. I opened her mouth to yell for help. The first attempt didn’t work. My mouth was too dry. I swallowed again. “Help!” I screamed, my voice coming out raspy. “HELP!” I screamed again, and this time it gained real volume. My echo came back to me some moment after. I'm the only one here. ***
