The room grew quieter as everyone awaited what was about to happen. A few tense minutes later, the maid returned with Dame. The boy's eyes widened with excitement as he spotted me, and he ran into my arms, hugging me tightly. I scooped Dame into my arms, relief flooding over me as I felt his warmth and saw the familiar spark in his eyes.
