The heat was oppressive, a combination of halogen bulbs and the stifling air of a windowless studio.
“Thank fuck,” I muttered, swinging my legs over the side. “I need a drink and a shower. In that order.”
“Stay put,” Dominic said. It wasn’t a request. He waited until the crew had packed the last case and the studio door clicked shut, plunging the room into a heavy, loaded silence. I watched him in the dimness, a predator in his natural habitat of shadows and wiring. He wasn’t a big man, but he filled the space, all coiled tension and unnerving stillness.
