A number of my men were already waiting for me at the table downstairs, where breakfast was being served. Immediately they saw me, they all stood up to greet. It was now time for business. "Reports!" I grunted out, plopping myself down on a seat. A couples of files were suddenly slid towards me and without hesitation, I opened them to go through the contents. A small smile tugged at the corners of my lips as I studied the stats on display. Over 70% of the city was now mine. With my reputation as Don Moretti, the ruthless boss of the criminal underworld, I had managed to gather large percentage profits in almost every business, here in Vegas.

The fool. I tugged it out and turned it over. That’s when it happened. A soft thud. A cream envelope slipped from its pages, landing softly on the floor. Curious, I bent to retrieve it. No stamp. Just the embossed seal of Camden & Lyne Private Banking Group—a name that whispered old money, confidentiality, and quiet ruin. I turned the envelope over. No seal. Already opened. I should’ve left it alone. But I didn’t. The letter inside was short. Almost insultingly so.

I looked around the corner, checking for my mates. I didn’t see any sign of them so I slipped down the hall and into the kitchen. Joanna was at the counter, chopping vegetables for our lunch salad. “Joanna, I’m dying for a donut,” I groaned. “Please tell me you have some stashed somewhere around here.” She winked at me and went to a drawer, pulling it out and revealing a trove of cookies, donuts and cupcakes. I groaned.

I told him authoritatively. "Yes, my Ry," he saluted. When we finally reached the kitchen, he gave me his welcome gift again. Because it didn't look like a donut box, I was curious to look at it. I was amazed at what I saw, it was strawberry and banana dipped in chocolate. "Did you like it, my Ry?" Dylan asked while still smiling, looking very proud. "Of course, thank you, Dylan. Where did you buy it?" "Just in the office." "I was the one who suggested that, it's good that you liked it, Rylan," Nico said while smiling as he sat behind the kitchen counter.

We dropped Sam’s stuff off at the house and then headed to the diner to talk to Ben. It was too early for lunch, and a bit too late for breakfast. It seemed like most people preferred the donut shop for breakfast anyway. There were a few older people sitting in booths, eating eggs and bacon, and a couple grabbing an early lunch with sandwiches and fries on their plates, but the place was much quieter than the last few times I’d been in.

We both laugh at that. The waitress comes to our table with our drinks and our mini plate of pastries— we might have given in to temptation a little bit. We dig in immediately. Everything tastes amazing. I push the doughnuts down with my hot chocolate. My phone starts ringing and I check the caller ID. It’s Ronan. Right, Ronan, flowers. I completely forgit abkut them. I haven’t even thanked him for them yet. I answer the call. “Hey, I am so sorry, I got a little carried away…”

Baking and cooking are what make me happy. Starting a donut and bakery shop that also has an attached coffee shop with my best friend, Lucy, is pretty damn satisfying. I’m in the kitchen now, shaking my hips to some pop song while mixing a huge bowl of donut batter to have for us in the morning. Lucy and I come in at five am to start making donuts, adding icing and fillings, and whatever other touches that are needed. Our baristas are about thirty minutes after us for a six am opening.

“Yeah, Madam Mary…sometimes, I just wanted to see how’s everything has been doing with my own eyes…give me 2 strawberry flavours…here you go, 1 credit right?..…” Madam Marry, or Donut Mary was one of the street stalls vendors that were the first generations that opened their business here in the Restaurant Street, commercial district. At late afternoon, until the dawn the street that was about 600 meters long will be closed and the night market will be opened for the street vendors to sell their products here. As always I bought a strawberry flavoured donuts and paid for it by using a paywave card. Then sat next to to the stall with the chair that Donut Mary gave to me.

“If you get some, I promise to eat one or two, okay?” Scott leaned over to give Rayan a quick kiss, then they were back in the flow of the mall’s foot traffic headed over to the mini doughnut kiosk. There was a small line, and a wait afterwards since they were making everything fresh to order. Scott procured a table nearby, and moved some chairs out of the way to have room to park Rayan. They didn’t have to wait too long before their order number was called, and before too long Scott had retrieved a small steaming bag of fresh doughnuts dusted in powdered sugar.

I stood up from Eleanor's lap, and Eleanor walked up to the counter to take her coffee. I took a sip from my frappe and grab one glazed donut from the box and took a bite. Glaze donuts are the best, I said in my head as I savor the delicious donuts. I had a couple of bites into my donuts when I noticed Eleanor hasn't come back yet, I look at the counter I can see Eleanor smiling while talking to the cashier. I looked to see who this cashier and damn, it was the woman that Eleanor was eyeing, outside the orphanage earlier.
