Two men were in a pit they were digging. They clambered out, picked up the dog while being carefully watched, and dropped it into the hole, which they then began filling in again. “Unfortunately, we have a slight rat problem. The dog’s full of poison.” “It’s a lot of effort to catch some rats,” I said. Laney appeared next to me. “You haven’t seen the size of their rats.”

I said, “every experiment in this lab gets tested on you first. Before any volunteer. Before any animal trial. You.” I leaned close. “You are my lab rat now.”

A noise report. My jaw tightened. I felt it then…heat crawling up my neck, rage licking at my control. “There’s nothing down there for you,” I said evenly. “The basement houses laboratory specimens. I have permits.” “Specimens?” he echoed. “Yes,” I replied without missing a beat. “Genetically sensitive laboratory rats. A special breed. Highly reactive. Harmful if mishandled.” It wasn’t even a lie. Not entirely. The officer didn’t look convinced. “I’ll need to verify that,” he said, stepping closer. “Unlock the door.”

Marcus Doug Douglas had played many roles throughout his long and rather productive life, including those of son, brother, husband, father, uncle, friend, industrialist, politician, strategist, artist, and for the last six decades, village blacksmith. His biological body had died years before, which explained why, with the notable exempting of his brain and some spinal cord, the rest of Doug Douglas was synthetic. Nor was this the first such body. After being forced to occupy a blue eyed monstrosity immediately after his "death", the businessman had commissioned bodies that looked a lot like the original had. Pleasant but portly. A tall and a short with wears cloak that covers their faces, and one wears a plague mask. "Doctor, the rats have grown larger since you feed them upon the mountainous corpse at the mountains." the shorter one in a cloak says. "But of course, every one of us has a role to play. Even in death, the Chief and his Hand will serve nutrients for my pets." the Doctor says as he places a rat the size of a cat on the table. The rat heard the Doctor whistling and followed her commands. She then commands the rat to attack the two other members at the table.

Azure's POV Rolling my neck, I stepped into the lab, seeing all of my scientists working diligently on our newest product. “Mr. Blackwood,” one of our oldest employees, Douglas, smiles, handing me a white lab coat. “Are you here to test out the new gear?” I nodded with a smile, “Won’t know if it’s effective if I don’t.” He chuckles nervously, “It still baffles me that you choose to be your own product tester.”

Douglas grunted, Larry was of no use to him if he was going rogue. "Have you been hearing voices?" Larry continued happily, "What do they mean?" "Larry." Douglas hissed, losing his patience, "I'm in the midst of a crisis, so if you have nothing to tell me, get out." Larry frowned, but remained in his position. He didn't shake with fear like he normally did whenever Douglas barked at him. Grudgingly, Douglas rose to his feet and carried one of the bottles and two of the cups Larry had poisoned earlier. If anything, Larry was only increasing his frustrations. He needed his liquor to get through the morning without murdering anybody. An idea popped into his mind.

He wore a new smile but it was more than easy to see it didn’t quite reach his eyes. "Cats have nine lives," she very swiftly replied. "Well," he said. "Let’s hope to see that’s the case then. It’s a pleasure." With that said, the lab technician nodded once to Doctor Jules before taking the samples and entering the laboratory. He passed through a series of doors until eventually, he was completely out of sight.

Ethan I walked back and forth along the edge of the laboratory, my hands clasped behind my back, observing Dr. Elio as he eagerly mixed chemicals in their respective bottles. The laboratory was crowded with machines and wires, and a strong, awful smell from the chemicals made my stomach churn in discomfort. My gaze scanned the rows of countless steel cages, where wolves, once free and proud, were now confined under their captor's cruel gaze.

It was so hilarious. “Hello, little one down there, or is it inside there? How soon are you coming home?” Douglas asked. “In 9 months’ time or a little earlier.” I said. “No, not you, him or is it her?” Douglas said looking at me smiling. I laughed. “I am his mouth piece or is it her mouth piece?” I said and laughed. I held Douglas’ head close to my abdomen for as long as he stuck it there. “I can hear something move inside there, or is it someone?” Douglas said jokingly.
