It was like it was constantly evolving, which only made our task of finding a cure seem more impossible. After a few moments of studying the rat, it continued to lay in its spot. Blood from the dead rat spilled over until the alive rat was lying in it. Instead of getting up and moving, it just calmly started licking at the blood on its paws. The sight sickened me worse than I thought it would have. Getting up, I went to retrieve a syringe and something to pin the rat down with. Once it was pinned and secured, it didn’t seem bothered by it, just continued to lay there, and lick its paws.

What if they actually die before I could give them the cure but I brush the though away and get it to them anyway I watch as they rushed to take bites of it. It took less than three seconds for them to collapse.

He grabbed a neutralizing spray and doused the cage in a cloud of thick, white mist. The violet light in the rat's eyes flickered and died. Subject 42 slumped back onto all fours, its fur returning to a dull white. It blinked, let out a normal, pathetic squeak, and began to groom its tail as if it hadn't just dismantled the social lives of half the room. The lab was in chaos.
