I called out. “She is the Dark moon goddess..” A voice came from behind Mason. We all turned to see Vaya, the witch's granddaughter. I had completely forgotten about her. “You know what this.. thing is?” Mason asked. Lora shifted back into her human form, her breathing was heavy and slow. Rodrick helped her back to her feet. “The Dark moon goddess is an ancient wolf, just like the silver wolf. Her powers rivals even that of the silver wolf. How did you find her?” Vaya asked.

127 (Camerin’s POV) The pack was quiet behind us as we moved out, the kind of silence that comes after too many battles in too few nights. Tyler had given his orders, sharp and final. Find the witch. End her. We ran light six of the best hunters left in the Lunar Lake pack, warriors who didn’t need speeches or second chances. Each of us carried silver-edged weapons, charms from Lena’s sisters braided into our gear to keep whatever dark magic this witch used off our skin.

She turned back, unsettled, the weight of the forest following her all the way to the edge of town. That afternoon, she sat in the lodge’s common room with her laptop and a stack of borrowed books from the meager town library. She searched for meanings—old religions, pagan rituals, lunar cults. Every keyword brought her closer to strange folklore but further from science. Most references blurred together: moon-worship, transformation myths, curses tied to blood and silver.

‘The goddess bestows her gift of light to whom she favours…’ I hastily made my way to my former table and spread the scroll wide. The pictures on the parchment were of a female with a crescent of the moon on her head like a halo. It was the art representation of the moon goddess. Lunaria. Her hands were alight with glow and she was surrounded by werewolves who bowed before her. My eyes greedily ate up the words. ‘At the winter of solstice, Goddess Lunaria puts the deeds and nobility of her children on the scale of purity, to see who is fated to be the next child of light.’

Then the strangest thing happened, slowly the moon began to descend from the sky right before my eyes and as it did, it got small and smaller until finally, it came in through the open roof and went straight into the orb that was in the woman’s hand. The orb gave off a soft silvery glow at first before it exploded with a bright light that made me shield my eyes. The eye of the statue lit up too and then it spoke to me, “Javier, the first mate of the chosen one.” I still shielded my eyes until the light dimmed and I could see again, “Who the hell are you? What am I doing here?” “I am Lunar, the goddess of the moon and the mother of all werewolves, Lycans, and otherwise.”

Or were they just stupid? "I hope I am also like her. Full of privilege that she forgot what role she needs to fulfill." It wasn’t Cynthia this time; it was a couple of newly sprouted she-wolves, acting like they were something special. For all I knew, they were omegas. I didn’t have a problem with omegas generally, but the way these two were behaving made me question their worth. They acted as if they were above their rank, and I couldn't help but feel disdain.

Sadie I was shocked by what I saw my new Luna do, how she had conjured the moon. She wasn’t just a wolf, but a powerful witch who had the capability to summon that lunar energy. My knees quaked, urging me to bow, but I couldn’t take my eyes off her as the flicker of her beast within made itself known—not just a wolf then; the reds true Luna—the presence I caught out of the corner of my eye, before she turned to a point on the wall. Her fingertips grazed along the seam of the wallpaper. A stark click, followed by the groan of mechanisms, as the wall gave way and opened, resulting in a rising plume of dust. Brianna sneezed, and cursed. Guiding her ball of moonlight into the doorway.

“There was a feud between a witch and a coven. There was a werewolf watching, and the witch was not aware of the feud—or so it appeared,” Crystabelle said haughtily. Everyone stared at her as she continued her bizarre story. Some more people, including members of the Moonlight Pack, had gathered around her as soon as she started making a scene. “The coven was irritated by the witch’s behavior. To them, it was either ignorance or dismissal, and neither appealed to them.
