I pause a half-breath, then knock. Raven answers with her hair in a haphazard braid, still damp from a shower. She’s wearing a faded t-shirt that once belonged to Jax, the old pack insignia almost indecipherable from repeated washes. She lifts one eyebrow, a quick, surgical appraisal. “Did you come to get me for training today?” she asks. No preamble, no hospitality, but I sense her awareness—she’s already clocked the intensity of my presence. “No,” I say, “but may I come in? There’s something I want to discuss.”

“Bring the Black Coast shipment codes, the account access, and every fucking file you stole.” A sob caught painfully in my throat. What the hell were they talking about? “I swear I don’t know anything,” I whispered desperately. “I don’t even know who Ravens is.” One of the men barked out a laugh. “Damn. She really clueless.” “Not our fucking problem,” another muttered. The gun pressed harder into my skin and my breathing immediately turned shaky again. “You hear that, Ravens?” the man said into the phone. “Fourteen hours before we paint the floor with her brains.”

There was no sign on the door, no name, no indication of what waited inside. Raven stood on the sidewalk, her hands in the pockets of her coat, her breath fogging in the cold air. She had dressed carefully, a black dress she had bought for her mother's funeral, simple and elegant, with her mother's pearls at her throat. She had not known what to expect. She still did not know. A black car pulled up beside her. The window rolled down. Fenris was behind the wheel. "You came," he said. "You manipulated me." "I prefer to think of it as persuasion."

sighed Jane. Raven returned home dejectedly. Her parents looked at her. "What happened?" Her mom asked hopefully. "Ralph left for New York, " said Raven as she trudged up to her room. Her mom brought her some breakfast to her room. "Eat and when you have the energy, think positively about what you want to do in life. Do you wish to wallow in self-pity or go after your man?" said her mom. Raven stared at her retreating back. Of course, she knew what she had to do. She picked up the tray of food and ate it all up. She needed the energy. Then she checked her mobile phone and booked herself a flight to New York.

I relaxed and let the first tear fall. ”Yes, it’s a girl,” He said with a shallow smile. ~Amber~ ”How much longer?” I asked and tapped away with my foot on the floor of the car. ”Not more than an hour,” Raven said as she drove like a formula 1 driver. On the roads where there was traffic she was more conscious. She didn't feel like drugging a cop with her vamp blood and controlling their minds but as soon as the traffic eased up, Raven pressed on the gas.

"That isn't a good example for Cherry." "You're not a good example for Cherry." Raven scoffed, appearing next to him. Black hair parted in the middle as it twisted in two messy french braids. She was dressed in a mesh white, dark green, and black jacket with a white hooded crop top underneath. Ripped blue jeans with black, fishnet leggings underneath, and a pair of solid black pumps. "What?! I am the utmost-" "Jackass." "Na-uh!" "Idiots," I scoffed. I didn't know how Charlotte could ever stay sane around those two. Timothy's stupidity and Raven's enabling of his stupidity was only going to leave my mate down a path of insanity.

The aura around him sank slightly, and his clear voice no longer carried even a trace of warmth as he calmly called out two words toward the empty mountain forest. "Raven." The moment his voice fell, the previously clear sky darkened abruptly. A giant raven with a wingspan of nearly ten feet, its entire body black as ink and its feathers gleaming with a cold metallic sheen, tore through the sky and dove down from the clouds with a howling rush of wind.

He sends a text to Raven. {I’m ready to come clean. Where can we talk?}

After the argument in the car, Raven was surprised to receive a text message with an address and time for the gig. He debated whether to go as he changed shirts three times in front of his bathroom mirror, finally settling on a plain black t-shirt and jeans. He shrugged on his leather biker’s jacket and ran a comb through his hair. “Shit,” he told himself in the mirror as he fidgeted with his hair and ran his nails through the stubble on his cheeks contemplating the value of shaving. “You are like a nervous virgin dressing for her prom date.”
