--FIVE YEARS LATER-- "Mama, tell us a story!" Lily demanded, curled up in her bed with her stuffed rabbit. "The dragon story!" Lucas added from his bed across the room. "With the brave knight!" I settled into the chair between their beds, these six-year-old miracles who'd survived everything. "Once upon a time," I began, "there was a dragon who everyone thought was a princess. She was kind and good and trusting. But people took advantage of her kindness. They tried to trap her, use her, steal everything she loved."

We soon reached a sleeping dragon, he was enormous. Dynaris approached the sleeping dragon, her footsteps echoing off the cavern walls. As she drew closer, the dragon's eyes flickered open, and he regarded her with a piercing gaze. Dynaris stood tall, her voice clear and steady. "I mean you no harm, noble dragon. I'm on a quest to reclaim the ancient dragon throne." The dragon's gaze narrowed, his voice low and rumbling. "Many have come before you, seeking to claim the throne. But few have succeeded. Are you prepared to face the trials that lie ahead?" Dynaris nodded, her determination evident. "I'm ready.”

"Tell me everything your parents told you about my family." I sighed, a shameful blush coating my ears. I could still feel the burn behind my ear. It felt raw, especially as blood rushed in a telltale flush. "They told me a lot of things. And, I'm going to preface this by saying I thought the dragon thing was a metaphor. I didn't know it was a literal thing." Thane laughed suddenly. "So sirens, sorceresses, chimeras, all valid and real, but you draw the line at water dragons?"

Stories that frightened the concept of escape from our minds. In their stories, dragons were worse in real life than in the books. The aunts told tales of treacherous creatures, who hunted down women in the forests to use during their breeding seasons. The women were captured and carried off to their chambers to be used as a host body for their children. Breeders, the dragons called them. As if they weren’t mothers and daughters. As if they were worth nothing more than their wombs.

I muttered. As the news spread throughout the dragon clan, whispers and murmurs filled the air. Some were in awe of Drogo's unexpected allegiance to Freya, while others expressed doubt and skepticism. Questions swirled in my mind, and I knew I needed to confront Drogo and seek answers. She was the only one who could give me a comforting answer filled with nothing but the Truth. Dragons aren't just flying beings, they are magical creatures who foresee the future and they never lie. They would always stand on the truth.

The owner looked at me with confusion and remarks, "Great, another one who's gone crazy. Must be the 'Stuart's' genes." "What do you mean by that?" I glared at him "Oh right. This one's defective. The Stuarts are known for their folklore about dragons and all that. Your father even took it up to a notch waging a war with his imaginary dragons just because he won't let his daughter be the bride." "Watch what you say about my dad." "Geez, even the temper is there." He mocks I ignored him as I carried the books all the way back home. I read as much as I could about dragons. It's been said in these books that dragons are known for their bat-like enormous wings and serpentile creatures. They are

Teddy and I look at each other. “Grab Volume one, the Dragon Tale,” Teddy huffs. “Why do I feel like this is about to be ridiculous?” “Because it most likely is,” I say, opening the Sliver colored book.
