Nina I wake up gasping, my throat raw and dry, and my body drenched in sweat. The nightmare still lingers, clinging to me like a second skin. My chest is tight, and I can’t shake the feeling that something’s horribly, horribly wrong. I sit up, wiping my face with the back of my hand, but it doesn’t help. The images from the dream are burned into my mind. Jaxon. His body, lifeless, sprawled across the cold ground. Blood pooling beneath him, his eyes vacant, distant. His mouth… he was calling my name. But he wasn’t alive.

Dax’s POV The rogue wolf screamed as I tore its throat out with my bare hand. Hot blood exploded across my face and chest in thick sprays while the creature twitched violently before going limp. I flung the corpse away with disgust, bones cracking loudly as it crashed into the pile of dead monsters already surrounding us. “Fucking disgusting,” I muttered darkly, wiping blood from my mouth. Around me, Shadowfen warriors were still fighting the remaining creatures flooding through the forest line. Wolves, malformed hybrids, twisted night crawlers and beasts that should not have even been working together moved like a coordinated army instead of mindless predators.

She said and I went out and left. Devon and I were walking to school like we always do. Walking to school and walking home together. He noticed that I am quiet because of what happened and I can’t get it out of my head. I feel like I was being played by my eyes or by my brain.
