It's something sacred shared by two souls who compliment each other. It's supposed to bring us utmost joy and inspiration. But what happens when a marriage is founded on lies?

"You will be in it for the money. See him as a bank and the money he'd give you as a loan. He needs you for his own personal reasons and you need him. You're both using each other Lila, nothing is wrong with that." Lila shook her head at that. "Everything is wrong with it Ema." She said as he sat down on the couch. "I have dreamt of my marriage since I was a little girl. My husband would be madly in love with me and he'd be willing to worship the floor I walked on. And my children? I dreamt of having a lot of them. And some pets, a few dogs and a cat that would be the Queen of our house. A contract marriage is the complete opposite of that dream. Ema, I just can't."

“Marrying you.” Her eyes turn wide, and her heart thuds loudly. She gulps, and I can feel happiness course through her, traveling into my skin like a wave she shares with me. The best part of us being mates is knowing each other’s emotions. Her being excited about marriage makes me happy. But then sadness washes over those bright emotions like a shadow has fallen over her. She’s feeling helpless because getting married seems more like a dream now. We can’t even meet each other without risking our lives now. So how will we get married?

"Wait, sir! M-marriage? Really? You want me to marry you? Are you—" She couldn't finish what she was saying because he cut her off, but there was still a hint of shock on her face. "Don't overreact, okay? I'm not done yet," he said. "You told me that your grandmother is in the hospital, right? You need your work to support your grandmother's medical needs. I'll be honest with you, you can't support your grandmother's hospital bills just by working at the store. Even if you get tired from working, it won't be enough. I just want you to marry me for some reason, and I know that you too will benefit from this."

I let go of him. "I don't think so." "Gosh, my entire career, my life would be stagnant." Heaven no, there was no way I was crying! What was happening to me? "You're crying?" He looked confused, shocked, and funny. "I don't know. Now that I'm married to you, it feels like a mountain has come in my way of progress. Firstly, you ruined my dream marriage; I thought I was going to get married to someone I love, have a grand wedding, be happy after marriage, and not be forced to do things according to a stupid contract I signed."

"We were lucky enough to meet each other, and we just need to get what we need out of this marriage. Why not?" When she didn't say anything, he continued, "We don't have to interfere in each other's lives after marriage. I'm always busy with work, so marriage has never been on my to-do list. It's too bad I have a mischievous grandfather who doesn't agree with that. "We can both take this opportunity to get both our families off our backs. Blind dates are quite a waste of time, after all." Spencer ended his speech. He sounded like he'd been on more dates than he would've liked.

There was too much noise—so many grunts and movements I couldn't process. I drifted off once more. This time, I dreamed about something different; maybe it wasn't a dream. Damian POV I had been waiting for her to call me. By this time, I knew that she already had an idea that I pulled some strings to let her work on her dream job. I hadn’t forgotten what she told me about her dreams and wants, and right now, I wanted to make them happen. I don’t know why I do that, I just wanted her to know that she had options. Life is full of options. We just don’t settle on marriage and let people walk around us. In a marriage, spouses are part of the whole, a unified, solid entity, but outside of it, they can become two different people with diverse interests and dreams.

"Hmm." "Although I browsed it, and I saw that contracts are meant to expire. Is marriage contracts any different?" Leo blinked in thought. "Um, I think my and mommy's cases are different." Aria nodded. "OK, but what if it has an expiry date, does it mean you, and mom is not married?" Leo frowned, absorbed in thought at the statement. He has never thought about that. Never.
