"Maya, it's just a dream. Your sister is very fine. She promised to come and see you after she finishes what she is doing", Mrs Sarah said. "Are you sure, mother?" "Yes, sweetheart. Now, we need to get you dressed so you won't be late on your first day in school", she said.

"You look exactly like my sister. Anna. She died when she was seven. I was twelve." Lily's eyes widened. "That's why... in my dreams, there was a little girl named Anna. Your sister?" "You dreamed about her?" "During the coma. I had these vivid dreams about a contract marriage between us, about helping your company, about a little girl who drew pictures." She laughed weakly. "I thought I was going crazy. That my brain was just creating escape fantasies while Alex was poisoning me." "They weren't entirely fantasies," I said carefully. "The business rivalry with Alex is real. My sister was real. Maybe your subconscious was trying to tell you something."

Her whirling mind increased the throbbing pain in her head. “I thought you’d never wake up,” the voice sang. It sounded a lot like Tessa, but with another face. It wasn’t just any other face, it was familiar one. Her dreams began to make sense, things were beginning to connect. She prayed it was a crazy fan, but she knew it was Tessa, the sister whom she grew up with. Her sister looked exactly like her—surgery. The only difference was the scar on her right cheek.

"What do you want, anyway? You're not exactly my favorite person right now." My sister leaned forward, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "I want to know about your dream. You were screaming and thrashing around like crazy." I hesitated, unsure if I wanted to share. But something about my sister's expression put me at ease. "It was just a weird dream," I said. "I don't know, it felt so real." My sister leaned in closer. I raised my eyes again, still wary of my sister's intentions. "Look, I don't want to talk to you right now. You're always against me, and I don't want you in my room."

I ran a hand over my face, muttering a few colorful words. Oh God… another one of those dreams. And before you ask, yes—I know it’s embarrassing to admit that as a fully functional, employed adult woman, my weeks have been plagued with these unholy, vivid, explicit dreams about a stranger I’ve never met. Different scenarios, different positions, but the same detail that makes your soul leave your body when you wake up. “You look like you survived an exorcism,” my sister yelled again, eyeing me like she had holy water on standby. “Just get your ass up. Your office friend is waiting for you downstairs.”

Beside me, lounging like she owned the room, was a tall brunette with unruly curls cascading around her shoulders like wildfire. Her brown eyes glinted with teasing mischief, her smile both sultry and devastating.

“I keep seeing this girl in my dreams. I think her name is Miranda and she keeps crying and asking why we haven’t come to take her yet.” “Wait, you’ve been having dreams like this and you didn’t think to tell me?” I asked, staring intently at her. “I didn’t want to bother you with irrelevant things. Besides, Aunt Sienna said dreams manifest our strongest desires. So I thought, maybe I keep seeing her because I’ve always wanted a sibling,” she said in a very low voice, that didn’t seem like hers. I became speechless, I didn’t know what to say.
