Things were getting good before they decided to crash the party. “Alpha Dane is dead.” one of the old fucks said. I’m not always good at remembering names and faces. At least not when I first meet someone. Even less when I don’t want to meet them, but I’m pretty sure the one that just talked, the brunette with brown eyes, was named Joar. I think Alpha Logan said he was the Beta. I don’t care what rank he held in Steelcrest. I don’t care about Steelcrest.

~ DARIUS ~ The bourbon burned going down, but it didn't calm the storm raging inside my chest. I stood in my office, staring at the phone on my desk. Thorne's voice was still echoing in my head, the way it trembled when he described what happened at Draven's gate. Alpha Thorne, a man who had fought in three territory wars, reduced to a shaking wreck by an omega girl. "Darius," Selene said carefully from the doorway. "You need to calm down."

Emperor Valtor, broad-shouldered with a gray-streaked beard, exudes authority, his crown glinting as he toasts our victory. “Lord Veyne, your valor saved the realm,” he booms, and I bow, grinning internally. In the novel, he’s a background figure, but damn, he’s intimidating up close. Empress Liora, elegant in sapphire robes, smiles softly, her silver eyes kind but calculating. Book described her as a diplomat, but she’s got that queenly vibe. Then there’s Princess Elyria, Ardyn’s younger sister, barely mentioned in Thorns of Desire, a fleeting note of beauty and mischief.
