By the time she reached the courtyard, Eddy had already unloaded the cart and was stacking crates of vegetables and sacks of flour near the kitchen entrance.
His hands were calloused, his movements efficient despite the rain soaking through his cloak.
“Eddy,” she called, her voice cutting through the downpour. He froze, his shoulders tensing as he turned to face her.
His eyes widened at the sight of her, and he quickly looked away, his cheeks flushing.
“Sister Eve,” he murmured, his voice barely audible over the rain. “I didn’t mean to disturb you.”
“You’re not disturbing me,” she said, stepping closer.
