Jackson promised to be your free agent during the next elections,” Eddie said as they walked back to the ladies laughing. “It was lovely to see you again in a different capacity as my daughter in law and the aunty to my children,” Richard said when he got to Ella. Ella was glad that she had swallowed her drink because she almost choked. “It was good to see you again sir,” she said politely. It was time for dinner to come to an end and Ella excused herself to go to the washroom. Richard got a work call and stepped aside, leaving Eddie and Jessica alone.

I watch how he leans against the counter, his broad shoulders tight, his muscles standing out even beneath his long-sleeve shirt. His steely gaze meets mine and he nods, grunting in response. “Wouldn’t have asked you if I didn’t want you here, baby girl.” Tripp and Dane both shoot him scowls, and though I should feel weird about the strange tension between them, I don’t. In fact, it’s quite the opposite, actually.

Amelia, Why don’t you tell me that you know Mr Thompson?” My boss asked me, looking utterly surprised when he heard that I know one of the richest men in the whole New York City. I smiled at him awkwardly without saying anything. “You can go with Amelia, Mr Thompson. Thanks so much for trusting our agency,” my boss said, stretching out his hand to Eddie for a handshake.

A few minutes later, it downloaded onto my secure terminal. I pressed play, and the screen flickered to life with the grainy hues of an old camcorder. The scene was quiet - a luxurious room with drawn curtains, wood-paneled walls, and a chandelier casting fractured light. And then… he appeared. Edward Richards. Younger, sharper, and scarier. He stood at the window, facing someone off-screen. “Do you understand now?” his voice growled. “You walk away, you stay gone. I gave you money, protection, and silence. You breathe my name again, I’ll bury you.”

I walk up to Richie and ask softly, "What’s wrong?" Richie hesitates for a moment, his brow furrowing as if he's trying to sort through a jumble of thoughts. I settle beside him on his bed, the familiar scent of his cologne filling the air, and I ask, "Why is your mood suddenly off?" He turns to me, offering a smile that doesn’t quite reach his eyes. I can tell it's forced. "How can my mood be off when I have you here?" he replies, but there's a hint of something deeper lurking behind his words. He reaches out to cup my face, but I gently tug his hand away, holding it firmly in mine as I try to draw him out. "Come on, Richie, what’s going on? Mark came from a wealthy family like Sophie, but his family lost their wealth after a wrong business move and they struggled to survive.
