Kalu’s voice trembled with concern.
Eddie waved him off with a weak smile, ignoring the limp in his step. “I’m fine, Kalu. Just a little rougher than usual.”
Kalu hesitated, eyes wide but unwilling to argue. “At least let me bandage your face. You’re bleeding.”
Eddie shook his head. “No time.”
He looked out over the dock—rusting cranes, stacks of shipping containers, and the low hum of cargo ships unloading. It was the same place he’d known for years. This was his world, and tonight it felt colder than ever.
