I didn't want to dawdle, I needed him to go straight to the point. "Heard what?" I asked, an eyebrow raised. "Oh, nothing much like I said. I wanted to wipe that grin off his face, but first things first. "What?? Taking over what? All the doorways have been sealed, no portal is accessible. How then?" I asked incredulously. I was stunned into speechlessness. This wasn't the way it was supposed to go at all.

Out of breath, Edie said, "Why is it always so good with you, like it's the first time every time?" Tom huffed, "I don't know, but I sure am enjoying it." He tugged her close and held her until their breathing slowed down. "We'd better get going. I have a court appearance today, so I'll probably be late tonight." He scurried to the shower. Edie clutched her robe and hurried down the stairs to get breakfast going. First, she made coffee and decided on cereal. Something simple. She sat at the breakfast table when Tom entered.
