Editing Checklist Novels & Stories

I reread my book one last time to make sure there weren’t any edits that needed to be done. After reading it three times, I was happy with it. Opening my email, I soon found Jesse and attached the file. I stared at the screen for over a minute before taking a breath and clicking the send button. My mind was racing… “What the hell did I do?” I muttered to myself. I hurried outside of the room to the kitchen and took a breath. Dad popped his head around the corner,

Then he says: "Where did you study?" "Economics," I say. "Edinburgh." He nods once. Then he sits back down and we keep going. By four we have a draft. By six we have a clean version. By eight-thirty we have something I would present to any room without apology. James reads the final version straight through and makes two edits, both small, both right. I made one edit he didn't catch, which is a number in the appendix that was correct but sitting in a context that made it readable as something else. He sees it immediately once I point to it and says: "Good catch."

She chewed the end of the pen, wisps of hair that had escaped from her bun, framed her heart shaped face. "Have you finished editing the mistakes on the report?" I asked while gingerly placing documents into a file. She shook her head and marked out something on the paper. "I swear, its almost like your editors are illiterate. How could you possibly miss the fact that there is little to no punctuation in this, the paragraphs aren't indented, and someone spelled insalubrious incorrectly. Like hello, there's something called a dictionary!" She crossed out another line and scribbled something on the side in red ink.

And also, even if it is already edited, I can't assure you that it won't have mistakes anymore since making mistakes is inevitable. I'll reread and edit it all over again so expect some changes if ever you decide to read the chapter again. Thank you for understanding.

Nina deserved it. My book was completed already and Larry had gone through my book, pointing out a few things to be corrected. We met five times during the first week of the month. He was a great editor. He also changed the title for me to a catchy and attention-grabbing one. He edited my synopsis and the whole outline before I sent it to Mr. Gonzalez's email. After he was done with the editing, he gave me the manuscript and I sent Mr. Gonzalez a message, telling him that I was ready for the contract.

It was great news. We had to make a few tweaks to the paper to make it publication quality, but I sent Nancy a note to say she did a great job. Then I let it distill in my mind for a week, reread it again, polished down a point that was sticking out, then I sent that version to Dryden for a final check. The next day, after his "thumb's up" I sent it in, with CC: to those directly involved.

Kim asked. "My agent wants to see how well this one does before moving forward with the series. Right now she went ahead and sent it to the editing process. Not that they will change the story, just spell and grammar checks." Pamela explained. "That way if this one does well, we'll be ready to start promoting the next one and ready for production. But that time does take a while. However, you'll get your copy to approve as soon as the editing is done." Pamela replied. "I've talked it over with the guys and we've decided to share our story also." Sam replied.

CAELUM'S POV": Working was always the best thing I could do, these files that I had been checking had been edited so well that it had been so much easier to review them.
