" She lied, attempting to maintain her composure. Edward's laughter was icy, devoid of joy. "Vanessa, you ought to be. You should be extremely scared." While talking, he put his hand in his pocket and retrieved a tiny key. He opened the drawer next to his bed and took out a tiny book covered in leather. "This is the journal you were searching for," he mentioned, his eyes shining with malevolence. "But you are not prepared for the reality it hold." Vanessa felt her heart beat faster as Edward flipped open the book, his gaze moving over the pages.

I placed my hand on the cold knob, and it creaked open under my push, revealing a library. Dust floated in the amber light coming from a chandelier, the scent of old paper surrounded me like an embrace. Shelves towered on all sides, cracked and faded with a variety of books. My fingers drifted along the titles crested in the rectangular back of the books, then something caught my eye—a red hardback, its cover smooth and untouched. Elias asked, shocked. Before anyone could answer, a bright light filled the cabin. Something appeared in the air before me—a book, old and worn, its pages flapping as if caught in a wind. It floated for a moment, then dropped into my hands. The moment I touched it, pictures flooded my mind: An old woman with silver hair facing a beautiful woman with black eyes. Blood dripping from stone walls as symbols glowed with blue fire. A man with a scarred face—Orion—holding a red leather book.

“Does it bite?” Steve snorted. “Probably.” They reached a circular antechamber at the end of the hall where a massive tome—several feet tall and wider than a table—sat on a pedestal of smoldering glass. The book was open, its pages turning themselves. Emma stepped forward and placed her hand on the edge of the platform. Immediately, flames curled around her wrist—not burning, but connecting. But something made me pick it up and flip to the first page. The handwriting was barely legible. Messy scrawls that slanted across the page in red ink. Some words were pressed so hard into the paper that they’d torn through to the next page. Others were so light I could barely make them out. “Can’t stop seeing it. Over and over. Blood everywhere. Her eyes. Dead eyes. My hands. Always my hands.” “What the hell…?” I whispered. That was probably where I should have stopped, but I couldn’t help it. I flipped to the next page.

Sniffing carefully to make sure he is not being followed, he pushes the door open. Behind the door is a large room with thousands of shelves lined in straight lines. Each shelf has over hundreds of books which are thick with dust and cobwebs. A strong scent of sewage and fungi is in the air but Eduard is not bothered by it. He holds the lamp higher and walks ahead. Mice scurry off as he approaches a shelf in the farthest corner. Scanning through the dusty shelves, he finally finds a thick leather bound book. He takes it out and dusts it well.
