I deeply want to understand him, to know what lies behind that perpetual smile.
“The first time I saw you,” he says, pointing up to his room window, “you looked so sad and melancholy that I wanted to fix everything in your life.” His gaze lingers on me, and I can feel his eyes tracing the lines of my body, the concern evident in his expression. “You look the same way right now,” he continues, his voice growing somber. “But I don’t think I can fix everything in your life, and that devastates me.”
