The gates didn't open. Big Elijah stepped out of the security booth, his arms crossed over his massive chest. He recognized me immediately, and his expression turned to stone.
"Not today, Mr. Rider," he said, his voice deep and final.
"I’m here to see Sarah," I said, rolling down the window. "It’s about the Global Glass acquisition. Tell her it’s a business matter."
"She’s busy," Elijah said.
"Tell her," I growled.
Elijah sighed and spoke into his radio. A few minutes later, the gates slowly creaked open. I drove up the winding path to the house, my heart doing a strange, frantic dance in my ribs.
