Her smile was too calm for any living creature.
“Hello, little Moon,” Jade purred, wearing her stolen face.
Baylee stepped forward before Collin could stop her.
“Don’t call me that,” she said.
Jade’s smile curved. “Why not? It’s what you are.”
“It’s not who I am.”
Jade tilted her head, mock-thoughtful. “True. Who you are is… inconvenient.”
Collin growled. “You don’t belong here.”
“Oh, darling,” Jade purred, turning Elara’s stolen face toward him. “Neither do you. You’re an accident. She’s the only reason you’re still standing.”
