Dre's anger was simmering to the surface and all he wanted to do was to rip her apart. "Ellie is in trouble. Save her" she pouted. Ellie shook her head, tears filling her eyes. Cornelia began to laugh and Ellie used the opportunity to step on her foot hard enough for her grip to loosen. She moved away, swiftly throwing a punch at Cornelia's temple. Cornelia tried to get to her gun but Ellise moved it far beyond her reach before stepping on her fingers, hard. Ellie kicked her on the leg and rushed to Dre who held her in his arms, relieved.

Ellie approached and looked around the corner. "Aaaaaa!"

I reached for my phone and scrolled through my contacts until I hit Ellie Sunshine—the name I’d given her after that week in Big Sur where we drank canned margaritas and swore we’d never settle for boring. I tapped the video icon. “Is she gonna answer?” Sadie asked, twisting the bottle cap off a new hard cider. “She better. I need her commentary on my spiral.” After two rings, the screen lit up. “BLUEEEE!” Ellie’s face appeared in the glow of her fairy lights, her curls piled in a messy bun, a face mask smeared across her cheeks like war paint. “Why do you look like a moody goddess and I look like a literal troll?”

Dust poured down like rain. Ellie vaulted forward, sprinting across rubble. She leapt high, the sword singing in her grip, and slashed downward — severing one of the goat’s curling horns. The Chimera screamed. Its black fire spewed wildly, melting columns into rivers of stone. Ellie dove behind broken marble, rolling across the ground as heat seared her skin. From the skies, drones captured it all. Across the world, millions watched in silence, breath caught in their throats, whispering as one: Come on… come on…

“We’re sort of in the dream realm, Aurora.” “Ora,” I correct her. She smiles at me. “Ora, I’m Ellie. A hybrid, very similar to yourself.” I looked at her cautiously. “If I’m dreaming, you’re a figment of my imagination. Right?” She gave me a half smile and looked to her left. “Ora, we have a common enemy and, according to a friend, you can help me stop her,” Ellie turned her head toward me. “Ora, please help me stop Millicent.”

“I was trying to kill him for you, Jordyn. So you could get his inheritance.” “Ellie, no. No. You need help. You’re not…right in the head. Let me help you,” Jordyn said. Both he and Dillon had taken a step forward. Ellie shook her head wildly, and then pounded on her forehead with the butt of the gun. “I’m NOT!” she yelled. “I’m fine! This is all HER fault!” The next few moments happened so quickly. Ellie pointed the gun back at me. “You know what? Fuck your parents. I’ve had it with you, bitch.” Her finger found the trigger. Both Dillon and Jordyn saw this, and they both lunged at her.

I say fake pouting. She holds up a finger gun, "give her up I know she's here." I take Ella from behind me and hold her up in the air. "Take her don't harm me" Ella wiggles in my hands saying "no don't do it I won't splash you again" "Really giving up a child that easy" Lily's chuckles she then shoots both of us and we lay down playing dead. 1

“Trust me, you're not the first.” As if they both suddenly realised the court had gone quiet, Mia and Ellie looked back at us, recognition sinking hard the moment her eyes met mine. “Mia?” I muttered. She looked away almost immediately. “Uh, babe” Ellie spoke. “This is my aunt. Mia Sinclair. She works with the media team that'll be covering our games.” What?! “Uh, nice to meet you, miss Mia” Zane replied, suddenly sounding respectful. “The pleasure’s all mine. Ellie's told me good things about you.”

River was always so quick to respond to her messages. "If you don't mind." Ellie sat back down behind her desk, going back over the conversation she'd had with Sylvia and trying to remember all of the details she'd been given. Being suspicious of other people wasn't always a quality she was proud of, but as a Luna, she had to be careful. She not only had a lot of power over her pack members, she had a lot of responsibility. River walked in, and Ellie stood to give him a hug and kiss. "Why do you smell like my mom's garden?" he asked.

I tease as we walk out. Ellie laughs and gives me a gentle shove. “I think I’ll wait till next week. Besides, someone told me it’s better to play hard to get. Some men like doing the chasing,” she replies with a smile. There’s a street stand selling cool drinks parked right outside the building, and Ellie pulls me toward it. They have quite a variety of smoothies to choose from, yet another healthy choice to add to our self-care routine.
