Isabel was in her younger sister’s bedroom watching her as she played with her doll house. Teresa was Isabel’s world. She adores the young child with every fibre of her being and will do anything to protect her from harm. Isabel isn’t the only one who feels that way about Teresa, so does her parents.

Elysia, Elaine, an office worker, had moved into a small cottage nearby. Although it raised many questions, I decided not to dwell on it. People here had no idea about our true identity. As I poured coffee into her cup, her voice filled the room with an endless stream of conversation. She seemed talkative, but I listened patiently, keeping my responses minimal. “Mommy! Mommy, I’m done with my homework!” A bright voice interrupted Elaine, and I turned just in time to see Ruby dashing out of her room, her small feet tapping against the floor. She ran toward me, excitement shining in her crimson eyes, and without hesitation, jumped into my arms.

Her smile was as bright as the morning sun, almost blinding as she skipped towards Briana happily. “Good morning Elise.” Briana greeted, but she didn’t bother to match Elise’s enthusiasm. It was strange for her to see someone so excited to start another tiring day, but it was also one of the reasons she admired Elise. Her passion and dedication to her work was beyond inspiring. She always made sure to carefully explain how production on set worked with Briana, and although they’d only known each other for a day, she was grateful for her kindness.

Andrew’s mumbled words fell between them; Elaine’s bread remained mostly uneaten in her palm. “Naomi- her name is Naomi Sher, and she’s fifteen.”
