She was wearing a pale blue dress that floated when she walked, and her dark hair was pinned loosely, a few curls falling in front of her face. It was strange how quickly I had warmed to her. But then again, Emily wasn’t like Maya. Emily didn’t slither through rooms. She didn’t cast shadows or build alliances with secrets. She was genuine, thoughtful, and, most of all, kind.
