I threw myself back in the teal armchair, annoyed that I didn't discover anything. Then I see it. An old copy of Pride and Prejudice. But what strikes me is that this is not the only copy of this book I've spotted on her shelves. In the 11th grade, we were assigned the book for our English literature class. I could feel an intense gaze on me but i didn’t dare to look at the direction it’s coming from. I opened my book and started working, but that feeling didn’t go away, i was definitely being watched. Mr Isaac’s voice echoed in the classroom. “Winston Smith is the protagonist of which George Orwell novel?” I raised my hand. “Yes Miss Jenkins” “1984” “Very, very good Miss Jenkins, that is correct can you tell me what genre of book does Danielle Steel primarily write?” “Romance” “Excellent! What do George Eliot, George Sand and Acton Bell all have in common?”

"And what's your favorite?" "Oh that's too hard to choose sir. I mean of course I love classics like The Great Gatsby, 1984, and One Flew of the Cuckoo's Nest. I'm crazy about the James Bond books. But I have to say Misery is my favorite book. Stephen King is a genius." "So all that's told me is you read in high school and that's it. Aren't those all required reading?" "Daddy." I whispered. He took a long gulp from his glass. Sophia closed her eyes as though she was embarrassed.

"Well, sometimes I watch T.V. I like, well, love to read. So I do that a lot when I'm alone." "Like what? Romance, crime thrillers?" I shrugged. "Sometimes. I really like the classics. Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, George Elliot (who was a woman, by the way). I also like the Russians, like Tolstoy and Dostoevsky. 'War and Peace' is amazing." "You've read 'War and Peace'?" "Yeah, twice. It's excellent." I cocked my head. "How about you, what do you like to read?"

"As far as I remember, you've been reading that damn novel since I've been talking to you. What do people enjoy in reading words?" "Because it's awesome." "How? You can rather watch a movie than read books." I slapped the book out of her hand. "This book… 'The Badboy's Pre-planned Future Bride' by 'Gift Odulesi', it's awesome. You really should read her books. Some people prefer reading books than watching movies." She rolled her eyes and picked the book from the floor. "Oh, really? People like who?" I took a handful of chips and threw it into my mouth, munching it.

I go dreamy; oblivious of whom I'm talking to. "Are you sure Northanger Abbey is what you want?" Liam asks, as though trying to correct my scruple. Well . . . Looking around, I spot a few of Danielle Steels' books and she's one of my favorite authors. "Can I just have Malice?" I ask, and Liam doesn't budge for a minute. I try to keep calm, watching him moving graciously, before he plucks a well preserved copy of Malice. I think I'm going to stick with the latter tonight. It was my first novel to read, so it's kind of exciting to reread it.
