My vision blurred, but I saw it— A dark, irregular birthmark stretched along his arm. Unmistakable. A mark I could never forget. Sirens grew louder. His face was drained of color. His grip loosened. “I’m sorry,” he whispered, already pulling away. “I’m so sorry.” His hands slipped from mine. He ran. His footsteps vanished into the rain as darkness finally claimed me. The last thing I felt was the echo of his trembling touch.

"How did this happen?! You did something, didn't you?!" I held my daughter firmly and laughed coolly—there was no reason to pretend now that I had safely delivered my daughter. "Pot calling the kettle black, huh? I've not seen someone as despicable as you. What, you'd rather come here and freak out at me than visit your sickly bastard?" Tina pointed at me and bellowed, "You knew! It was you… You did this to my son!"

Now, not drinking made me fake. My hands were shaking. I felt sick. They kept yelling. I turned to leave. Chuck yanked me back and shoved me onto the couch. My stomach slammed into the sharp edge of the table. The pain hit hard—blinding and instant. My head spun. My stomach throbbed. I couldn't move. Chuck barked, "Get up! Stop faking! Say sorry!" He grabbed me again, dragging me upright. Then I saw it—the blood on the floor.

We sat across from each other, staring at each other silently for a long minute. He was the first to speak. “I’m sorry for everything, K.” “Don't call me that again, you lost the right to do that.” I said, we always referred to each other by the initials of our first name, but that was a long time ago. He looked down at his hands. “I know that doesn’t fix anything. But I needed to say it. What I did with Jax… betraying you like that… it was the worst mistake of my life. I don’t even know how I let it happen. I was angry, insecure. He twisted things in my head. Made it feel like… like I had to prove something.”

It burnt down my throat while I jiggled it and swallowed it lightly. I looked at it while I maintained my composure. “I mixed it with some gin,” Jack confessed while he laughed at me, seeing the way I had squeezed my face like that of an old lady.

No yelling or slamming yet, and he was willing to listen to what I had in mind. However, I had nothing in mind. I didn't know why I promised to help him, but I know it was the right thing to do. “Let me help you,” I mumbled again. Sin nodded with a sigh. “Although I don't know what you have in mind, I hope it works. It gets worse by the day, and it might come to a time when you wouldn't be able to stay close to me.” “I doubt that. I take risks…” “You shouldn't.” Sin said. “I'd hate to be the reason you would be in the infirmary. Considering what happened the last time, I don't think you are in any condition to be anywhere close to me.”
