Her voice vibrated like thunder. Chris froze, his expression shifting for a brief second, as if her words had landed deeper than he wanted to admit. A group of students slowed their steps nearby, whispering as they watched the scene unfold, but no one dared to intervene. Bryan’s grip on Tessa’s hand tightened as though he feared Chris might lunge forward any moment. The echo of Tessa’s defiant words rang in Chris’s head like a bell. But I knew Chris, he was stubborn when it came to love, especially when it involved the person he cared about.

The steering wheel jerked in his hands, and the car surged forward, picking up speed as it hurtled down the main road. He slammed on the brakes, but it didn't respond. His eyes widened in terror, his mouth hanging open as he watched helplessly as his car hurtled towards an oncoming truck, speeding down the road. In a last-ditch effort, he tried the brake again, and to his surprise, it suddenly kicked in.

Contracts can always be broken. “Well, I have counted more than fifteen broken bones… Eleven of them being her ribs and both collar bones. Her entire left arm, upper and lower is fractured, and luckily, the upper came close to being a compound fracture but I have been able to get that mostly fixed… Her right humerus is fractured in two spots and I am working on accessing her neck and head right now.” Bart explained feeling Karen’s neck carefully. “I haven’t had a chance to look at her hands yet either…”

Precise. The intent. I tasted the intent of the men in the white coats. Cold. Arrogant. They didn't want the ore. They wanted the breakage. They wanted to crack the egg to see what would hatch. Anna went on her knees and gently picked up the frame. She gasps when she saw how badly broken it has become. "Oh my God, how did this happen?" she cried out touching the picture of the broken frame and then a tiny piece of the broken glass pierced her right middle finger. "Ouch" she squealed and threw off the frame on the floor and held her right middle finger tight and blood gushed out.

And just like that, a curse cracked. Maybe not broken yet—but cracked.

She had no reason to be happy that I was here. I stopped in front of her and crouched down so I was at her eye level. "What is wrong?" Milo held up a broken plastic toy. It was a small animal, a dinosaur maybe, and one of its legs had snapped off completely. The plastic was cheap and brittle, the kind that broke easily and could not be fixed with glue. "Someone accidentally stepped on it," she said, her voice small. "And now it cannot be used anymore." She looked down at the broken toy in her hands, and her lower lip trembled. I felt that twisting sensation in my chest again, stronger this time.

The room seemed to close in around them, the weight of their newfound knowledge settling upon their shoulders like a burden too heavy to bear.
