(Lucian's POV) I stood at the bathtub edge, watching Hunter Thorne sit in the water with Ethan. Hunter's nose kept running, spreading snot across his face with each wipe. "Dad, your face looks kind of dark..." Ethan said, his green eyes watching me. I hadn't expected to babysit both pups while Elara visited the Rivers' territory. He turns down his vampire charm, and Brianna drools like it's the hottest thing she's seen since sliced bread was invented. "Alright, sorry. She smells so good. And are you wearing a Tim Burton shirt?"

Curious, I approach the door, reflecting on how much easier it was to sneak around when I wasn’t carrying ten extra pounds of puppy in my mid-section. I hear Devon first, his usually gentle voice uncommonly serious. “I have to tell you the truth, Ethan.” At once I realize he must be preparing to confess his vampirism to Ethan, and at first I lose interest. After all, I already know this information. However before I can walk away Ethan’s deep voice reaches my ears, and I stop short. “What do you mean?” Ethan responds, his tone so sharp it takes me aback. “Don’t tell me you’re going back on our deal.”

I quietly close the door behind me, before making my way to the living room. In the living room, I find Ethan pacing anxiously in the living room, his expression tense and worried. He turns towards me as I enter, his eyes reflecting a mix of concern and urgency. "We need to talk," he says, his voice low but urgent. "You could have called," I mutter, sleep still evident in my voice as I sit on the couch. "You fucking knew she was Mae's sister and you made me babysit her," Ethan yells. He stood at the foot of the bed like a grim reaper with gym biceps. “You have ten seconds before I drag you out myself.” “You touch me and I’m calling Child Protective Services.” “You’re eighteen.” “Exactly. Adult Protective Services, then.” Ethan didn’t respond. He simply walked off. I smiled to myself, victorious. Until— Splash. Ice-cold water. Straight to the face. “ETHAN, YOU FERAL GOBLIN!” I screamed as the world froze around me. My shirt was soaked. My hair? A wet mop. He stood there, holding a half-empty water bottle with the smugness of a man who’d just watched the world burn and called it art.
